Founder Story – DJ Exsys (Michel van Dop)

My story with music began with pure passion and endless nights of mixing. In the 1990s, I spent hours in my own room and in a shared space where the turntables were at the center, surrounded by stacks of vinyl and a curious group of friends. We played everything: from Italo Disco in the afternoons to trance and clubhouse on Saturday evenings. We recorded our sets and learned by experimenting, turning each mix into its own adventure.

That passion led us to Fantasy Radio in The Hague, where we could share our love for music with listeners, back when it was still illegal. Using a 150-watt FM transmitter and cassette tapes, we brought the sounds of the clubs and dance floors to the airwaves. It was a time of discovery: new sounds, the energy of events like Mystery Land, Trance Energy, and InnerCity, and the magic of the club scene in The Hague.

That combination of music and technology never let go of me. In 2006, I founded Live-Streams.nl to combine my passion for radio with streaming technology and help other radio stations broadcast online. Over the years, I’ve supported stations ranging from small hobby projects to commercial broadcasters, always focusing on stability, sound quality, and reliability.

In 2012, Intense Radio was born. Not as a marketing concept, but as a natural continuation of everything that came before. I personally design the logo and website, define the music format, and refine the station’s sound. Dialing in audio processing and adding that final “sauce” to the music remains one of my greatest joys.

For me, Intense Radio isn’t a product. It’s a place where experience, technology, and love for music come together – just as it did at the start: playing music because it feels right and sharing that feeling with others. Nowadays, I also sometimes create music with the Polyend Tracker and two Roland machines, real hardware that allows me to play and experiment all over again.
